07 Feb Virtual Reality of Marine Particles using Holographic Microscopy
Come visit us next week!
Time: Wednesday February 14 from 10:30am – 12:00pm.
Location: Oregon Convention Center Exhibit Hall, Booth #302.
Description: We would like to invite you to participate in an interactive demonstration of ‘OceanDrop VR: A virtual reality safari revealing microscopic life within a drop of seawater’. Using data collected in the North Pacific, we showcase the marriage of digital holographic microscopy and virtual reality to visualize phytoplankton, microzooplankton, and marine snow particles; in situ, and in a 3 dimensional fluid environment. The 4Deep HoloSea is mounted autonomously to a CTD-rosette and captures rapid images (16 fps). OceanDrop VR merges over 1,000 holograms for a single CTD profile within the Oculus Rift environment, producing a tour of roughly 100,000 of the microscopic particles and ecological horizons that span the upper 1,000 m of the water column. The software allows the public to visualize and explore these CTD-mounted holographic profiles as an aquatic, microscopic virtual reality safari.
