3D topographic view
Octopus reconstructs and displays 3D views based on phase information. Volumes can be zoomed, rotated and panned through, with user-control over levels of colour mapping and reconstruction plane. Quantitative phase imaging allows for this view to accurately represent object thickness by measuring the light path length difference within the object compared to a free path trough the media using phase.
Accurate quantitative imaging
Optical path lengths are converted to precise measurements of object thickness when refractive indices of the media and object are input to Octopus. Crosscuts display measurements of the cut on the x-axis, and object thickness measurements on the y-axis.
Cell dynamics explored
The benefits of quantitative phase information to cell biologists are numerous; structure, ion concentrations and cell viability are apparent with Octopus. Intracellular ion concentrations and the metabolic state of cells can be characterized and quantified.
